May 2012: Illumination Performance

As a Cultural Capital of Canada for 2012 Calgary will host Illumination, a gala event that will feature an unprecedented city-wide collaboration of dancers and musicians.

Opening the program is "Vienna", with the Calgary Youth Orchestra performing the music of Strauss and Chopin. The orchestra will share the stage with a troupe of young dancers drawn from all over the city.

The second act will feature four internationally acclaimed guest dancers.

The finale will present a spirited tribute to the season with dancers giving life to the complex rhythms of Stravinsky's immortal ballet score Sacre du printemps (Rite of Spring).
